Song Lyric Meme, the Super-Challenge Edition

How many of these songs can you name, along with the artist and/or source? (Using Google or other search engines is, of course, forbidden.) Comments are screened so that you can still try to guess even after the first person got it right, and I'll post the answers (with video links where applicable) later.

  1. There's nothing sicker in society than a lack of liquor and sobriety. – Q
  2. Well, it's wrinkly and crinkly and covered in hair; and I don't know what I'd do if it was not there – x0arkadia0x
  3. Zankoku na tenshi no you ni, shonen yo, shinwa ni nare… – phil_g (partial credit), seaya (full credit)
  4. Let me give you some green color and you will ask for more, you will see that you never felt this way before – techempage
  5. Follow orders as you're told, make their yellow blood run cold; fight until you die or drop, a force like ours is hard to stop – techempage
  6. Boom goes London, boom Paris, more room for you and more room for me – aerindipity
  7. Dipidapi dallaa ruppati rupiran kurikan kukka ja kirikan kuu – seaya (partial credit)
  8. A million times I ask you; and then, I ask you over again; you only answer [song title] – outcastspice
  9. Every time I put my hand upon her knee, baby gets angry with me; cuz she's a good girl, I'm a bad boy, but I turn into a sad boy when she says, "Hey take your hands off of me." – howlingcoyote
  10. You smell nice and you're groovy, and we both like foreign movies; my mother says you have that touch of class… – radiant_one
  11. And I don't want to die, I want to see the flowers bloom, don't want to go kaput, kaboom¹
  12. Oh wait I've got one, this'll be a good one, all we've got to do is run up some stairs from the [song title] – Q
  13. Yappappa yappappa, ii shan ten; hashagu koi wa ike no koi – jeriendhal (partial credit), deathquaker (full credit)
  14. I want a girl who will fit me to a T, a woman who'll look good on me… – deathquaker (partial credit), techempage (full credit)
  15. You know it was her own damned fault when God turned that bitch to salt.
  16. Good heavens, Miss Sakimoto, you're beautiful! – jeriendhal
  17. I saw her walking on down the line (yeah), you know I saw her for the very first time – dibob50
  18. tlhIngan SuvwI' qan jIHbe', 'ach SuvDI' vay' ghIH vaj bom vIchennISmoH jIH 'e' vIHarbejtaH.
  19. Do the tears on your pillow roll down as you turn, do they short out the blanket and make the sheets burn? – blargblarg (partial credit)
  20. That was a joke, ha ha, fat chance. – jeriendhal

¹This song contains lyrics in three languages. I was nice and picked out some of the English lines.

EDIT: I'm only listing the person who got it right first, except for partial credit/full credit situations. However, after I post the answers, I'll come back and unscreen all comments here so you can see how many you got correct even if you weren't the first. I'll also unscreen them because some of your comments are amusing.

EDIT: Just in case anyone is wondering, you need to provide as a minimum the song's title in order to get full credit. Partial credit has been awarded (thus far) to people who could not identify the title or artist, but provided enough other information to be worthy of mention. If someone else got partial credit, it's not too late to provide the title and get full credit.

I wasn't kidding when I called it "the Super-Challenge Edition". However, obscure though they may be (excepting the fact that videos for several of them have been posted in this very journal¹ in the past), there's not a one of them that shouldn't be known to somebody on my friend's list.

¹No fair going back in my journal to look for them, either. And if you're my wife, no fair going through the "My Music" folder on my computer either – although at least three of the songs as yet unidentified should be a breeze for Q if she decides to participate.

The only two I recognized jeriendhal got -- #13 is "Ja ja uma ni sasenaide" from Ranma 1/2, and 20 is "Still Alive" by Jonathan Coulton.

#14 sounds like something from "Silence of the Lambs: the Musical." ;) (If there is actually such a thing, I'm booged.)

#3 has something to do with an angel, a boy, and wanting to be a "shinwa."

That was very impressive, by the way. You didn't even know that there was such a thing as a Silence of the Lambs musical, but you were able to deduce its existence from that short quote. Bravo.

Of course, I now have  censored  running through my head!

A few of the songs are fighting for dominion of my cranium right now. I had to listen to most of them to get the lyrics I wanted (although seaya was correct that I needed Google to get the proper spelling for number seven), and then I hunted down YouTube videos for most of them when I wrote the answer key.

We have to use discretion in choosing our singalong songs these days, given how well Richard picks things up. But his cover of AC/DC's "Big Balls" is just so darned cute and funny!

Number 7 is the song that's on leekspin. It's a nonsensical section of a finnish folk song. I forget the name of the group, but I know that's the song. I also know that you probably googled to get the lyrics ;).

I used Google for all four of the non-English songs, although I would have almost gotten the two in Japanese correct even if I hadn't. I've never made a serious effort to learn Klingon.

Number 3's title is Cruel Angel's Thesis, I believe. It's the theme to Neon Genesis Evangelion, which phil probably already said. I may be wrong ont he exact title though.

I think 5 is something from Kilroy was Here, so I'm going to guess "Mr. Roboto" since it seems like it could be something about the racist Japanese robots.

Sorry, not even close on this one. "Yellow" in this context implies cowardice, not an Asian slur. That being said, until I watched that video again recently, I had completely forgotten how insultingly stereotypical the Robotos looked in the "Mr. Roboto" video. Whenever I heard the song, the robots I saw in my head were the ones from the Doctor Who (Tom Baker era) episode "Robots of Death".

That's not actually the song's title, but it would have gotten you partial credit (if phil_g hadn't already gotten partial credit the same way). However, although that might be the only one off the top of your head, I'll bet there are more in the middle of your head somewhere. If you'd like, I can send GWIII (who had damned well better recognize #1) over with some power tools to extract them.

Yes yes, I know it's not the title, sorry I put it that way. :) I'm still shocked I got it in ONE word. Time to go cut up 4 lbs of roast, finish making home made tomato sauce and otherwise make fixings for Kaddo Borawni.

Phil told me to take a look at your post to see how many I could guess. Yeesh, you've got crazy taste in music, I hardly recognize any of these!! I'll have to check back for the answers in a bit. ;-)

I've heard #3 in Neon Genesis Evangelian (or however that's spelled). #8 is "Perhaps" which has been covered by Cake, but I forget the original artist. I'm pretty sure it's on the Strictly Ballroom soundtrack somewhere.

Since Monday's a holiday, I'll probably post them on Tuesday. Yeah, I've got a very eclectic collection, and I deliberately tried to make this list as diverse as possible (which is why I called this "Song Lyric Meme, the Super-Challenge Edition").

I've heard #3 in  censored  (or however that's spelled).

Correct.

#8 is  censored  which has been covered by  censored

That's the version I have on my hard drive, although I do reference another source in the answer key.

 censored  #19.  censored

I think I can give you partial credit for that.

 censored  #7  censored

You would have gotten partial credit for the source (but that name you gave was the artist, not the title) if partial credit hadn't already been awarded for that one.
