Geekery - HP4

The new Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer. I don't recall Durmstrang and Beauxbatons being all-boy and all-girl schools (respectively), but other than that, it looks pretty good. Well, that, and the apparatus holding on Mad-Eye Moody's mad eye...

EDIT: Further comments...
  • Hagrid guiding the Beauxbatons carriage down like an old airplane - funny.
  • Ron really doesn't want to dance with Professor McGonagall - can't recall if that scene's in the book.
  • Hogwarts is still up in the mountains - maybe they haven't moved it again.
  • I wonder how long this movie will be? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a very thick book.
  • I like Sirius' face in the fireplace.

Geekery - H2G2

I haven't seen anyone comment on the recent release of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) on DVD. I didn't even realize it was out until I saw it for sale the other day and picked it up.

On of the biggest complaints about this movie when it was screened in the cinemas was that so much of the story was missing. I recall reading from a number of sources that all sorts of extra material (including additional Guide entries) didn't make it into the final cut of the film, but would be on the DVD.

Bollocks. There's one (OK, half of one) Guide entry on the DVD – the last bit of the "babel fish" entry, about how the fish has been used to disprove the existence of God. There are a few more (very short) deleted scenes and outtakes, and that's it. (Unless there are more on a hidden Easter egg menu somewhere; I haven't looked yet.) Other special features include a sing-along of the dolphins' opening number, and the usual documentaries and commentaries. That's it.

I was expecting to see, and I'm pretty sure I was promised, a lot more of the actual movie itself. Does anyone know if there's a Lord of the Rings-style "Extended" version coming down the galactic bypess in the near future, or is this it?
