Last weekend, we went out to the movies. Q and Richard went to see Toy Story 3 (in 3D) while I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (I still haven't seen Toy Story 2). Q said that she liked it, although it was sad in some ways. "It's about a little boy growing up." I told her that I could say all of the same things about SPvTW. There was little depth to the story or to any of the main characters (and their performances); as is frequently the case, the most interesting people were the villains. The main thing that makes this movie stand out is the visual effects related to the video-game style fights. That spectacle did make the movie worth seeing, but it would have been better if Scott Pilgrim himself was actually likeable enough to make you care what happens to him.
